I've had many coaches in my career that beat up your confidence with too much negative feedback when you make a mistake and that isn't good for athletes, at least not for me. The best coaches are the ones that believe in your talent, and push you to the potential that they know you have. That's the type of coach Coach Simmons was. Honestly, he was the first one to help me really see and believe in my own full potential. He helped me build confidence in my abilities, and my game went to another level to where I was dominant. That confidence came from the work ethic he instilled in us players to outwork everybody out there, and hold ourselves accountable for slacking off.
Coach Simmons was my coach from 6th grade all the way through high school. The best trait about him was he led by example, held ever player accountable, and meant what he said. You could come to him for anything, and he would be there for you. As a player that's all you can ask for.
When I was a kid coming up I thought he was crazy for putting us through the workouts he created, but the older I got I realized the meaning and how they shaped us as a team and prepared us for life. It was all for a reason, and definitely payed off.
Coach Simmons is someone I would want to have in my corner no matter the situation.
Coach Simmons,
A Coach, friend, master, student, and great father. With Coach Simmons there is absolutely an expectation in how far he wanted you to excel (on and off the field). He doesn't look at circumstances or problems, he solves them. Still to this day I can see Coach Simmons pushing me to be the best. The stadiums we ran, he also ran. The early morning grind with film, he also showed up earlier which led to all of the players he coached carrying those values to college and LIFE. Even after he left coaching he still showed love to players by attending every game he could. The best 2 ever do it.
Coach Simmons' influence has been profound in shaping my coaching journey. Witnessing his impact on players firsthand, I was inspired by his ability to motivate them to strive for excellence both on and off the field. His coaching prowess was evident as he instilled belief and determination in every player, from the starters to the backups. However, it was his off-field guidance and mentorship that truly set him apart. The enduring relationships he maintains with his former players speak volumes about his character and the lasting imprint he leaves on those he coaches. Coach Simmons' legacy continues to guide and inspire me in my own coaching endeavors, reminding me of the profound influence a dedicated mentor can have on lives of others.
Coach Simmons and C1 Coaching Academy have exceeded my expectations in every aspect. If you're a coach looking to take the next step in your career or elevate your program, I wholeheartedly recommend Coach Simmons and C1 Coaching Academy. There commitment to excellence and genuine passion for supporting coaches sets them apart in the industry.
Coach Paul Simmons is one of the absolute best leaders and coaches I have ever worked with. His drive, determination, and work ethic are second to none. I've seen first hand how he has worked with young student athletes and he flat out rocks! He has positively shaped so many young people's lives over the course of his career. I am a better coach because of Coach Simmons and the leadership guidance he has given me.
Coach Simmons was and is a talented coach who always expects the fullest potential to be exerted from anyone he comes into contact with whether you're a player or even a student. He has a quick turnover rate in athletes, and students who are on the negative route and quickly can change their character to a positive outcome. He is confident in his strategies and teachings that ultimately have a domino effect on the individuals he is coaching. He is great at illustrating the task to help others to execute. There is always a new perk gained when partnering with Coach Simmons.
Coach Simmons was my coach at DeSoto HS. The thing I loved about Coach Simmons the most was his passion and enthusiasm that carried us through so many moments playing football for DeSoto through the ups and through the downs. His love for his athletes was unmatched. 'Til this day I tell anyone and everyone those summer workouts at DeSoto were the toughest, and Coach Simmons led us in the Texas scorching heat running us but always letting us know there's a purpose for what we were going through. He was with us at our lowest moments, and he celebrated with us in the hottest moments. He made a great impact on my life. He has a lot to do with my mindset, my passion, and my dedication for what I do in my adult life as a trainer. Coach Simmons is undoubtably one of the best I've ever had in my life.
I suffered quite a few injuries in high school, and they broke me and hurt me, but Coach Simmons was there for my rehab, he always kept my mindset intact, and most importantly he let me know how important my leadership was, and I thank him for that. In the hardest moments Coach Simmons was there for me but not just for me, but for everyone. His impact is unmatched.
During my first year of teaching, Coach Simmons helped to champion my success. He was instrumental in supporting me in pedagogy and helping me to navigate challenging relationships with all stakeholders. Because of his efforts, I’m a competent school leader who is changing the world of education - one student at a time.
Coach Simmons exemplified excellence and commitment each day to us at DeSoto High School during his time. Players could always count on him to bring the best our of not only us as players, but the coaching staff as well. I also had the pleasure of having Coach Simmons for Business Management. He dedicated his time into each student with immersive learning while tying it back into the real world with his life experiences. He has spent countless hours shaping young men into great leaders, fathers, and husbands year after year. I am truly grateful for not only having him as a mentor, but also a person who has made sure to elevate the athletes he coached.
Coach Simmons is one of the more intentional coaches that I've ever come across. His passion for developing athletes extends beyond the field of play, and his track record of guys that have gone on to have success is a testament to the quality of work that he does. You will be extremely hard-pressed to find a better alternative, no matter the sport.
Coach Simmons is a man that is full of integrity. As a colleague I have witnessed him navigate highs and lows in both his professional and personal life. His determination to anchor every life choice based on his faith has made him the top notch leader he is today. He has molded many great players and coaches by leading from the front. The number of athletes I have seen reach higher levels of success than expected is an understatement. Coach is a man I will always be willing to build a foundation on.
Coach Simmons has been a great coach and mentor for my two boys Dontre Wilson, DeSoto class of 2013, who played at Ohio State University and Jaedon Wilson, DeSoto class of 2021, who is currently playing for the University of Arkansas.
Coach Simmons started coaching Dontre during his 7th grade year, so when Jaedon started to take interest in football it was a no brainer on who would help him prepare for a life in football.
Coach prepared them for college ball by teaching them great techniques, and giving advice on life at the next level. He continues to play a big role in my boy's life, even after football. Dontre had a football career ending injury and Coach counseled him through the process from football to working and being a great provider for his family. Coach continues to support Jaedon by attending his games, and giving him great advice about how to get better as an athlete and college student.
Coach Simmons is always there any time my boys need him. We love having Coach Simmons as part of our family.
Coach Simmons was my coach in spring of 2009. I was coming off a major leg injury, and right off the bat Coach Simmons instilled something in me that still helps me get through life everyday.
He said, "If you really want something, work so hard that nobody can take it from you."
Coach Simmons made sure we all knew he was going to be there every step of the way, for the good and bad days and for the early mornings to late nights. He is a coach that will teach you everything you need to know both on and off the field.
Long after my playing days, I still get calls and texts from Coach Simmons. When I was living in Denver, he made a point to come out to see me for my birthday. Not only is Coach Simmons a great coach, he's a mentor, a friend, and a teacher who will always be a man of his word.
Coach Simmons is what I call a player's coach! He is tough and fair with ALL of the athletes, and always willing to help them get better.
While at DeSoto I would watch how he energized the entire program with his energy and consistency. He was the same dude every day, and that's why he was well respected.
He has the Dedication, Desire, and Discipline that's why he is the best father and coach anyone could ask for!!
Coach Simmons is one of the best in the game.
When I was an assistant coach at Austin College, I encouraged Paul Simmons to come out for football and play wide receiver. Paul worked his tail off to be the best receiver he could be. He was extremely coachable, and very intelligent.
Paul exemplified what it meant to be a GREAT teammate. He encouraged his teammates, embraced his role on the team, and showed leadership while earning the utmost respect from his coaches and teammates.
Paul continues to exemplify these qualities as a coach and role model for you people to this day.
I love this letter. It was written by a student in 7th grade during my first year of coaching. It reflects what I hope and believe my coaching career was built around.
Not just building winning teams, but developing winning people with constant motivation, and belief that no matter how fast, strong, or talented all players have the need for a coach.
Coach Simmons has developed coaching, character, and leadership building strategies through a lifetime of experiences; as an NFL sports agent, the son of a Master Motivator, a high level Texas High School football coach for 8 years, a Licensed Personal Trainer, a College Professor, and mostly as a man who has failed many times.
Coach Simmons values loyalty, work ethic, and positive coaching strategies within all that he does.
